Article taken from Momma Explains
Momma got a question from a family member who is having a big party school graduation soon.
"What can I serve, how this menu plan as it is an open house and what wine should I buy? Is expected from a party that serves the best? "
Momma explains: First, responsibility of the parties is not needed to have a party that serves the best, but a party that serves the GUEST!
- Look at the audience, most graduation party really run a wide range of ages. You want the child of 2 years and 92 years of age to be comfortable and well fed. You must plan a menu that can be placed on warming trays, sterno units or toasters. Food should be kept moist and appetizing for a fairly long period of time. Momma suggests some of your ideas for great party favorite menu. I always plenty of food, otherwise it could send to all my relatives home with goodies. Some people give party favors, Mom sends you home with snackings!
Ideas for the menu
- Meatballs Italian red sauce or salsa, as my South Philly people call it.
- Sausage and onion fried with red and green peppers
- A clay pot of hot dogs .. I remember laughter .. 2 years of age and 92 years of age, both can have that. Having a steam bath is perfect. Loads of ingredients make a hot dog bar and adolescents can be as creative as they wish. Get several bags of hot dog rolls.
- Italian antipasto platters or just a sausage and American cheese * Note *- You must make up several small disks and take them out regularly, as they decrease. Small rolls are available for sandwiches.
- Finger fruit trays easy as strawberries and red and green grapes. Simply rinse and spread on a tray.
- A simple green salad with a dressing. Leave extra pre-washed lettuce in bags in the refrigerator and extra clothing also available. Simply fill the bowl as necessary.
- An extra plate of pasta or baked ziti cheese tortellini Alfredo. They can sit and relax completely without offending the sensibilities al dente.
- Desserts should be easy to take, as small brownies and cookies. You can always have a cake and graduation.
- A huge box of ice compression COP … remember the two year old to remind teens like .. Ice packs and make wonderful when two years old, have a stroke, while mom and dad are trying to swallow food or drink.
- As far as beverages, alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks will. Test the water, iced tea and lemonade or soda if you wish for non-alcoholic.
- Alcoholic beverages may be more difficult. A punch made with orange juice, sorbet and Prosecco (an Italian sparkling wine type that can be much more than a reasonable price champagne) made an Italian version of the mimosa and is impressive on the ice. Wine is my drink of choice, always, what I really want to pay attention. If you do not know what wine to buy NOT just walk into the grocery store and take a few bottles. You have to go to a wine shop and asking staff, "What are your highest rated wines at bargain prices? "There are several wine rating magazines, etc. that have smart shopping and bargain shopping and wine shops should be few. Keep your wine choice simple. This is not a dinner party, try a medium bodied red wine such as Red Jumilla Panarroz and a simple white Sauvignon Cantus Blanc. These are inexpensive wines that give a great value. However, your best recourse is to the wine merchant and of course, taste preferences.
- Would normally be expected a recipe along with a suggestion of wine, but for this post I'll just put my antipasto recipe, if you need any other recipes from my recommendations, visit the Food Network and get the recipes from Italian chefs, or use a reliable Italian cookbook or site. When cooking ethnic cuisine, the use of the ethnic source. Think you can leave the prescriptions has led to aberrations like the cottage cheese that is used in place of ricotta for Mother's culinary torture.
Antipasto MOMMA'S.
I buy good quality meat at the best prices. Check your local newspaper for their specials.
Place cleaned romaine leaves on a platter. Continue with layers of hard and Genoa Salamis, sopressato, capicola, prosciutti, mozzarella, provolone (use the slices for this version if you wish), the shell and quarters of hard boiled eggs, then add mixed olives, roasted peppers drizzled in extra virgin olive oil, pepperoncini peppers, and artichoke hearts. Also I put some good olive oil for dipping crusty bread slices. There are people who make their entire meal of my antipasto, but who cares, I want my guests to eat what they like. Now, normally would have a nice Chianti or Sicilian wine with this, but can be a bit more expensive, although there has been a series of great Italian wines at prices much lately. (Sipavola Di Sicilia Rosso 2006 or Salice Salentino La Corte 2006, pictured above), but if they can find in its general budget, perhaps to maintain bottles on the part of his "special" guests.
