Here are a couple of cookie recipes from my large collection of vintage recipes. The first is for an ethnic cookie – Swedish Heirloom Cookies. These cookies are not only but it would be great as tasty holiday cookies as they can be decorated to suit the occasion. The other is a banana oatmeal cookies which is a healthy alternative to custom cookies with pieces of candy and chips. Remove the baking sheet and bake a batch today. You'll be glad you did! Yummy!

SWEDISH HEIRLOOM COOKIES

I could not find a date in the old cookbook, where I first got this recipe. It had a factory price of 15 cents printed on the cover so it is obviously very old.

Bake at 325 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes.

Cream …… 1 cup butter. Unsifted Gradually add 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 / 2 teaspoon salt, creaming well.
Add …….. 1 1 / 4 cups almonds, ground, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
In Blend .. 2 cups sifted flour * purpose gradually and mix well.
Form the dough …… into balls or crescents, with a rounded teaspoon for each cookie
Place on a ungreased baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle with colored candies
Bake ……. oven at 325 degrees 15 to 18 minutes. Cookies will not brown when finished.

* If using self-rising flour (sold in parts of South), omit the salt.
Failure to decorate the cookies, you may roll in confectioners' sugar while warm.
Makes about 4 1 / 2 dozen.

BANANA Oatmeal Cookies

Back to the old recipe for a cookie to make for children. It is tasty, nutrious, and much better for your family that chocolate chips and / or candy bits.

3 / 4 cup butter, at room temperature
1 / 2 cup brown sugar
1 1 / 2 cups flour of
1 teaspoon salt
Cinnamon 1 / 2 teaspoon
1 cup oatmeal, dry
2 large ripe bananas, coarsely mashed
Sugar 1 / 2 cup
1 egg, room temperature
1 teaspoon baking powder
Nutmeg 1 / 2 teaspoon
1 / 2 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease cookie sheets. In a large bowl, cream butter and both sugars. Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and spices add to the butter mixture and mix well. Add the oats, vanilla and banana. Drop by teaspoon two inches apart on baking sheets. Bake 12 to 15 minutes until golden in color. Cool on a wire rack.

Enjoy!
